Smishing is phishing by text message. The message pretends to come from a courier, your bank or a government office and pushes you to tap a link before you think. Filtering it before it reaches you is the safest defence.

The scam texts people receive most

Parcel scams: a small fee is needed to redeliver your package.
Bank and card alerts: your card is blocked or a suspicious payment needs confirming.
Tolls, fines and taxes: an unpaid toll, a parking fine or a tax refund waiting for you.
Account lockouts: your Apple Account, streaming service or mailbox will be closed.
Wrong-number and job texts that start a conversation and end with an investment or crypto pitch.

Warning signs in a text message

Urgency: today, within 24 hours, last warning.
A link that doesn't match the company's real website, often with extra words or hyphens.
Shortened links or odd spacing designed to slip past filters.
Requests for card details, codes or a small payment.
A sender that is a random mobile number instead of the company's usual name.

Real banks and couriers don't ask you to confirm card details by text. When in doubt, open the company's app or type its address yourself instead of tapping the link.

How Junkless catches scam texts

Junkless combines three checks on your iPhone. A scam database lists hundreds of thousands of known phishing domains, so a link to one of them sends the message straight to Junk. A language model trained on real scam texts in eight languages recognises the patterns above even when the link is new. Your own rules come first, so a trusted sender is never blocked.

The database is checked for safety before every release: well-known banks, couriers, shops and link shorteners can never end up on it.

If you already tapped a link

Don't enter anything else, and close the page.
If you entered card details, call your bank using the number on your card.
If you entered a password, change it on the real website and turn on two-factor authentication.
Report the text: in Messages, touch and hold it, then Report Junk.
